Ross Cobb follows his stellar 2021 Pinots with a set of 2022s that aren’t too far behind. Cobb opted to pick all his Pinot fruit after the Labor Day heat spikes. He gave the 2022s around 30 days on the skins, with a healthy amount of whole clusters. The wines spent 22 months in light-toast French oak barrels, in the classic Cobb style that favors longer élevage in wood than is common in the United States. Alcohols are a bit higher than normal, but not noticeably so. Although the 2022s don't quite have the dimension of the 2021s, they come very close. Readers will also want to check out the Rieslings, especially the Cole Ranch, which is terrific.
