Since 1959, the Papin family of Château Pierre-Bise has been one of the most celebrated producers of Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume sweet wines, eventually expanding to whites from Savennières and Roche Aux Moines (14 hectares there,) and enjoys a growing reputation for its Anjou reds as well. Claude Papin took over in 1974 and has grown the estate from 9 to 45 hectares. Today, his sons Christophe and René Papin largely run the show and are experimenting with new approaches; including organic certification, which they achieved in 2019. On a recent visit, I saw that the Papins had begun working with sandstone amphorae.
