François Labet described 2014 as “a vintage for true connoisseurs, not only label drinkers—those who are also collectors but basically buy their wines for what they are” He believes that recent vintages have displayed generally earlier drinkability “Depending on what you serve with the wines—red meat, for example—they can be very much appreciated for their primary aromas But the 2014s should still have great ageability”

François Labet loves the balance of the 2014s, and the seductive side of this vintage."The acidity," he noted, "is strong enough to support the flesh of the wines. The vintage is a textbook model of Pinot Noir fruit: ripe and pleasant to drink." He described his 2013s as "more classic today" but noted that the 2014s still have more élevage to go. In fact, Labet told me in November that he hasn't even thought about when he'll bottle the 2014s.

Château de la Tour returned to what Labet described as "higher crop levels" in 2014, which in this case meant 30 hectoliters per hectare, compared to 26 in 2013 and 22 in both 2015 and 2012. Incidentally, there will be no Homage à Jean Morin bottling in 2014: Labet made it but decided to put to back into his Clos-Vougeot Vieilles Vignes.
