There is plenty to admire in these new releases from Rampolla. The Sangiovese and Merlot are good examples of the 2021 vintage. Unfortunately, I did not taste the 2021 Chianti Classico, as it was not bottled at the time of my visit. The 2019 Sammarco and D’Alceo, the estate flagships, are more accessible than they are in most vintages. Other than that, not much has changed at Rampolla. These remain some of the most distinctive wines in Chianti Classico. The combination of international varieties farmed with extreme care and then a minimalist approach in the cellar yields wines that are incredibly distinctive.
