2022 Chianti Classico

Castello dei Rampolla has only a few new wines this year. Rampolla has followed biodynamic principles in their vineyards since the 1990s, making them one of the first estates in Chianti Classico to champion sustainable practices, long before these approaches became the mainstream concepts they are today. The wines remain pure, unadorned and super expressive. Unfortunately, vintage 2023 here was extremely challenging. Yields were down more than 90%. Total production will be around 7,000 bottles split between Sammarco and d'Alceo. Rampolla did not bottle their Chianti Classico, Sangiovese Santa Lucia or Merlot Liu. For the Sammarco and d'Alceo, the current releasees remain the 2020s. The new Bianco di Santa Lucia is especially fine.
