Year in year out, longtime winemaker Alessandro Cellai and his team turn out gorgeous, expressive wines at Castellare. The 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggiale is one of the highlights this year. I found the flagship I Sodi di San Niccolò a bit closed this year, even within the context of this powerhouse Sangioveto/Malvasia Nera blend. This may be a case where I prefer the 2020 to the 2021. I look forward to tasting both side by side in the years to come.
