I was once again impressed with the wines I tasted from Caiarossa, the Tuscan estate of the Albada Jelgersma family, who also own Château Giscours in Margaux. The team, led by Vineyard Manager Francesco Villa and Giscours Technical Director Jérôme Poisson, has done a terrific job in recent years. Specifically, today, the wines have more precision and nuance, while issues that once plagued these wines seem to be relegated to the past. A former sommelier, Villa focused on viticulture and worked at several top properties, including Les Carmes Haut-Brion, experiences he has put to good use here. Caiarossa is a young estate. There are presently forty hectares under vine, but the oldest seven only date back to 2000. My feeling is that the best is yet to come.
