The Gil family owns wineries across Spain but their roots are in Murcia and Jumilla, to be exact, where the company was established in 1916. Today they own 350 hectares in Jumilla. Bodegas Juan Gil has built a solid reputation for producing outstanding, Monastrell-based wines that consistently offer serious bang for the buck. The entry-level bottlings are some of the greatest red wine values in the world to my mind. Thanks to their large production they are very easy to find. The vines at Juan Gils are mostly old and winemaking is straightforward, with the wines bottled on the young side to preserve fruit intensity and freshness.
