Founded in 1901 and located in the Barrio de la Estación in Haro, the American Carlyle Group acquired Bodegas Bilbaínas in 2018. They use local grapes (about 500 hectares), focusing on Rioja Alta. Their most notable vineyards are in Haro (220 hectares): Viña Pomal, Zaco and Vicuana, which also lend their names to the wines. Viña Pomal Gran Reserva has a classical Riojan style, while Vicuana has more of a New World outlook. An interesting note for visitors: the premium vineyards have a harvest garden with small vats in which to press grapes, along with a barrel room that is very much worth a visit.
