I tasted a wide range of wines with proprietor Antoine Roland-Billecart, including the 1971, which was a brilliant way to end the visit. My feeling with Billecart these days is that, while the top wines are undoubtedly superb, the entry-level wines remain rather undistinguished. One might say that is the price of achieving such a high level with the flagships, but I still think Billecart could raise the quality of their more modest Champagnes. After all, those are the wines most consumers are likely to taste first, before moving up to the big guns. Still, the level of attention to detail and overall precision in these vineyards and cellar can't be denied. The house does not list base vintages or disgorgement dates for their NV Champagnes, so I am unable to provide reviews for those wines as there is no way for the consumer to know they are buying the same wine I tasted.
