Ryan Deovlet, who learned his way around Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while working with Stephen Dooley at Stephen Ross Wine Cellars and during a stint up in Sonoma with David Ramey and the late Ulysses Valdez, is one of the United States’ fastest-rising star winemakers. Biddle Ranch’s elegant, complex wines are now solidly in the upper rungs of the San Luis Obispo quality ladder and prices are extremely fair for what’s in the bottle. These 2018s are the best wines I’ve yet had here, but quantities can be small, so direct contact with the winery is highly advised.
