I generally preferred Beringer's 2001 cabernets to its 2000s - no surprise in light of the relative merits of these two years, and the tendency toward greenness of so much Howell Mountain fruit in 2000. With the 2002 vintage, Beringer has added a second sorting table in the vines, so that rotten or obviously underripe fruit can be eliminated before being brought into the winery.
