Les Behrens describes the 2009 wines as having "upfront power with nice acidity." He claimed to have gotten almost all his fruit in before the big rain, pointing out that he works mostly with early-ripening vineyards. Indeed, I found some of the 2009s here to be a bit youthfully clenched, which is not necessarily a bad thing in a vintage that often shows immediate drinkability. Behrens noted that not too many years ago he had many more vineyard-designated wines, but his true love is blending. I have combined my notes on the Erna Schein and Behrens & Hitchcock wines under the Behrens Family Winery umbrella, as that is the way they were presented to me.
