Steve Beckmen presented an array of impressive wines. Like most of his colleagues, Beckmen commented on the unprecedented heat of 2020. Even so, the wines I have tasted so far here suggest the vines handled that challenge pretty well. Some opening of the canopy is typical here, but in 2020, there was no deleafing. A number of wines in this range are from 2019, a year that was cool and late ripening, but less so than 2021. The Beckmen wines are defined by an attractive interplay of dense fruit and the strong savory character that is typical of both Ballard Canyon and Los Olivos, where the estate vineyards are located.
