Bryan Babcock is one of the pioneers in the Sta. Rita Hills. In recent years, the estate vineyard has been pretty much wiped out by Pierce’s disease, so the wines today are made from a collection of vineyards throughout Santa Barbara. When I first met him, Babcock focused almost exclusively on Chardonnay and Pinot, but the expansion to other sites has also resulted in a broader range of varieties throughout this portfolio. There is certainly plenty to explore here.
