Tasting the 2020s with Will Camarda showed the open-knit qualities of this infamous vintage. I did not find any trace of smoke taint within any of the wines, yet they possess the year's subtle elegance and smooth character. When coupled with the Andrew Will style, which leans into understatement and finesse, the result is a set of wines that are already very pretty and, for the most part, open for business. That’s not to say the 2020s don’t have the balance to age, but instead that they will enjoy a broad drinking window. Meanwhile, the 2021s are a return to form, showing more of a classic Bordeaux style with Washington fruit ripeness. Andrew Will Winery is known for the use of Merlot in their blends, and that works beautifully here. These wines do not feel like they came from a warm vintage. I expect the 2021s to age beautifully, but there’s no harm in checking in on most of them today.
