The 2018s at Albino Rocca capture the personality of the year nicely. I tasted all the wines twice and was impressed both times. Readers will find a set of gracious, understated Barbarescos that impress with their impeccable balance. Some vineyards, such as Cottá, were affected by hail, while others were not. Over the last handful of years farming and winemaking have evolved in the direction of greater finesse, which aligns well with 2018. The 2018s saw 3-4 weeks on the skins, in tank. Malos were also done in stainless steel. The wines were racked into cask in November 2018 and subsequently spent 24 months in oak. The exception is the Barbaresco Angelo which sees longer time on the skins, along with submerged cap fermentation.
