Along with Giuseppe Sedilesu, Loi is one of the addresses to go to for highly traditional, rich, dense, ripe Cannonaus. The estate produces many different versions of Cannonau (for example, three different Riserva wines) from roughly 53 hectares planted in Jerzu, unquestionably the island’s real grand cru for Cannonau. The wines are made with long macerations and oak aging, and are very deep and complex in practically every vintage. A note of rusticity in the reds can be present from time to time, but in my experience always clears off with aeration, so decanting is recommended.
