Fans of old-school Cornas should have this small domaine on their radar, as Emmanuelle Verset is producing one of the most classic wines of the appellation, albeit in very small quantities. Her first vintage here was 2016, and it’s a lovely, finely etched wine that showcases both the year and the style of the estate. This was the first vintage of her own since taking over from her father, Alain, who is a nephew of the late, legendary Noël Verset, and her wines show more than a passing resemblance to those of her great-uncle. Made with a light hand, fermented with whole clusters and raised in neutral oak barrels, with no fining or filtration prior to bottling, this is purists’ Cornas, and while the wines are built to age, they never come across as severe.
