Le Piane is one of Alto Piemonte's most exciting estates. Proprietor Christoph Künzli arrived in the late 1990s and started began piecing together what is now an estate with eight hectares of vineyards. The Le Piane reds are deeply soil and vineyard driven wines of true pedigree. Every wine I tasted this year was terrific, but the 2011 Boca is truly spectacular and a great example of this tiny, often overlooked appellation.
