I missed Sepp Mantler on my most recent trip to Austria, but he was kind enough to send me a few bottles of the 2013s that he still had in stock and an impressive 1976 to prove how well his wines age. That bottle was from the period before he converted his 14 hectares of vineyard to organic farming in 2003. The yellow loess soils that shine here are sometimes more reminiscent of the Kamptal than they are of the heart of the Kremstal, and they are partly responsible for the more sumptuous style of certain wines here--and perhaps to Mantler's devotion to Roter Veltliner as well.
