This is a knock-out set of wines from Ghislaine Barthod. Yields were, of course, down significantly for the same reasons that affected every grower. The wines possess wonderful clarity and verve throughout the range. I will report on the 2009s from bottle in my April article. For now, let me say both the 2009s and 2010s are fabulous. Readers who can find them should absolutely not hesitate.

I've been visiting this domain annual for two decades, and 2010 and 2009 may be the most impressive pair of back-to-back vintages I've yet tasted here. As I reported a year ago, Ghislaine Barthod benefited tremendously by picking early in 2009. But her 2010s look to be more complete wines, with higher-pitched aromatics and terrific vibrancy that leaves the taste buds quivering. Barthod harvested with grape sugars between 12% and 12.5% and noted that the wines will go into bottle with 13% to 13.5%. Some of the wines were racked in July but those that finished their malos very late were racked at the end of October. Barthod noted that the 2010s taste different every day, especially on the nose. "They're taking their time coming into harmony," she told me. "But 2010 will certainly be a 15+-year vintage."
