Among Austrian wine fans, Velich means Tiglat and Tiglat means the country's best chardonnay. Although Velich sources this wine from some of Austria's best vineyards for botrytized sweet wines, he repeatedly succeeds in producing an exceptional oak-fermented dry chardonnay noteworthy for its unique spicy character. Of course, the winery also produces luscious sweet wines that are also among the best that can be found in the Seewinkel district of the Neusiedlersee wine growing area. Heinz Velich's brother Roland produces excellent blaufrankisch in Mittelburgenland under the Moric label, thus completing the assortment of wines from the Velich family. Also recommended: 2004 "TO" (88).
