Ross Cobb’s 2021 Pinot Noirs are the best wines he has ever made. From top to bottom, this is an absolutely stellar range. As always, Cobb crafts Pinots that exalt freshness and verve. The wines are done with a high percentage of stems, typically 40-50% for most of the wines. One of the most distinguishing stylistic choices here is a preference for longer time in barrel relative to most producers. Cobb’s wines have long been intriguing, but they have also shown some inconsistencies. The move to a new winery a few years ago was a turning point. The whites are very good too, perhaps a bit austere, but interesting, nonetheless. This year, though, the Pinots steal the show. I would be thrilled to own them.
