The 2017s from Rocca di Frassinello and winemaker Alessandro Cellai are very much wines of the vintage. Racy and supple, the 2017s will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. Warm, dry conditions were a help to the entry-level Poggio alla Guardia, which can at times be a bit green, but more challenging for other wines, like the Ornello, which shows some edginess in its tannins. The estate has decided to delay the release of their Merlot Baffonero by a year. I will be tasting that wine shortly.
