I tasted a wide range of wines a few weeks ago at Petrolo. This year, proprietor Luca Sanjust has a few additions to his lineup. The new 2012 Sangiovese Inarno is delicious, while the 2011 vintage marks the first release of Sanjust's Boggina Amfora, a wine done entirely in terra cotta. Overall, I prefer the 2011s to the 2010s here, as they have better balance and proportion. The 2010s, from a later harvest, feature a lot of dark, black fruit flavors, but they are also inconsistent, while the 2011s are a bit brighter and red-toned in their expression, and are also much more uniform in quality.
