John Alban's 2018s will very likely turn out to resemble his outstanding 2016s, which are definitely made for the long haul. With that idea in mind, Alban always releases his bottled wines late, usually well after his peers in the region. Production here is quite small, especially considering the formidable reputation that the range of wines has developed over the years. Even long-time mailing-list customers regularly get shut out of allocations and consider themselves lucky to get offered just a bottle or two of the top bottlings. These 2018 reds will be extremely difficult to source, but the ordeal is worth it because this set of wines is as impressive as any that I have had here in the last two decades.
