The Sartarelli family stands out for their ability to create four very distinct expressions of the variety, all of which represent an amazing blend of outstanding quality and value in their respective categories. The Sartarelli family may have only started farming and bottling Verdicchio in the 1970s (relatively young in the term of Italian wineries), yet they make up for that with a passion and attention to detail that has been passed down from generation to generation. The hillside vineyards sit at an average elevation of 250 to 350 meters above sea level, with exposures ranging from north to south, planted in soils of clay, silt and sand. While Sartarelli does not boast to be organic or biodynamic, they have created the Sartarelli Zero project, which uses natural extracts to deter vine diseases, as well as adding zero chemical compounds to the grapes in the vineyards or cellar. Tommaso Sartarelli, who is also the family's oenologist, proudly uses only stainless steel to mature all the Verdicchio throughout the portfolio, following his father's belief that wine should be made in the vineyard. It’s amazing to taste through this lineup with that in mind, especially when you experience the stimulating depths of the old-vine Tralivio, or the alluring, almost-oily textures of the single-vineyard Balciana. Whichever of the wines you have in front of you, remarkable balance and stimulating acidity can be expected to be found. Whether you are just beginning to explore Verdicchio or consider yourself a seasoned pro, Sartarelli delivers the goods.
