Poberaj
Poberaj is a project to watch in Washington State. While I only tasted one wine from this portfolio, it greatly impacted me. Owner and winemaker Jure Poberaj is the nephew of Josko Gravner (yes, that Josko Gravner) and has obviously been inspired by his uncle's work. The Godello I tasted for this report spent 100 days on its skins in 10-hectoliter wooden vats, then aged for two more years in puncheon before being bottled. The 2020 was made from purchased fruit, but Poberaj also has his own newly planted Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Nebbiolo vines that are slowly coming to maturity.
