La Staffa

La Staffa is located around the small town of Staffolo. Riccardo Baldi, the owner, is also the winemaker here. The vineyards span across hillsides at an average of 400 meters above sea level, planted in limestone-rich clay soils, and tended to through organic practices. For me, it’s the tension, a mix of minerality and acidity in these wines that really sets them apart. So much so that they often make me think of Matelica before Castelli di Jesi. The goal at La Staffa is to produce regional wines of transparency that communicate fruit and vintage character through traditional means. The Verdicchio Classico is always a pleasure to taste, while the old-vine Rincrocca really takes things to another level. Rincrocca hails from vines that are now almost fifty years old. The wine is refined for twelve months in cement tanks, ten of which are spent resting on the lees. La Staffa makes wines of unique expression of terroir created through passion-driven winemaking.
