It is truly amazing how year after year Franz-Xaver Pichler is able to do things differently than his colleagues in the Wachau. The proof that his talent and experience are able to master even a very difficult vintage like the 2004 lies in his series of wines. In spring of 2005, the peaceful satisfaction of this otherwise brooding vintner was visible on his face as he spoke about his new wines. This signaled that he was certain to have done all that was possible and that he was pleased with the results. This indication has proved true, for when I tasted the wines in autumn they had evolved beautifully and astonishingly. The wines can be compared even to those from excellent vintages, a clear recommendation for the 2004 Pichler wines.
