After breathing fresh life into this venerable estate over the past decade, Dr. Heide Kegel has ceded control of operations to the television personality Gunther Jauch, whose grandmother was a von Othergraven. With the 2009 vintage, he and his winemaker Andreas Barth were able to celebrate their inaugural vintage with a number of sublime rieslings that are reminiscent of the late '60s and early '70s, when this estate was one of Germany's best-and the Altenberg was perhaps even better known than the Scharzhofberg.
