I was quite taken with these new releases from The Hilt. The 2022 Chardonnays are gorgeous. I have, at times, felt the Chardonnays were excessively lean in past years. That is not an issue with the 2022s. Pinot Noirs are equally compelling, a testament to the skill of the winemaking team led by Matt Dees. The Chardonnays see 12-13 months in barrel, followed by about 7 months in tank. Pinot Noirs are done in a style that marries textural richness with energy. Bleeding (saignée) to enhance resonance is typical. The Pinots are done with very slight stem inclusion and age for 12 months in barrel. Dees is among the producers who chose to reduce the percentage of whole clusters in the wines in 2022.
