Fans of finely detailed, energetic wines from Paso Robles are strongly advised to put Thacher on their shopping list; although, that shopping will probably have to be direct from the winery as production of this eclectic set of releases is small across the board. Perhaps it’s that small output that keeps the wines under the radar, but given the consistent quality here over the last five or so vintages, Sherman Thacher’s work deserve serious attention. I tasted mostly 2019s this year, and it’s a vintage that plays strongly to the style of Thacher and his assistant winemaker, Daniel Callan. These are forward, energetic wines that favor balance and finesse over brawn and structure, so they are quite accessible now, especially with some aeration.
