Francois Mitjavile did not begin harvesting his '97 crop until October 4, and, according to son Louis, the fruit "definitely went into surmaturite But there also a lot of red fruit flavor and coffee torrefaction notes," he adds. The result: the '97 has a wider range of aromas than usual, despite the fact that grape sugars went up barely a half-degree in the month leading up to the harvest.
