2021 Syrah The Shadow

These are the first wines I have tasted from Terre et Sang, a new range from mother and son Dalita and Duncan Harmon. The Harmons source from fruit an impressive collection of sites. It’s hard to make definitive statements from just two vintages, especially years that are as diametrically opposite as 2020 and 2021. My impression is that the Daltons are experimenting and trying to define a house style. Even so, these are wines that lean into the richer end of the stylistic spectrum. Alcohols are on the higher side, but there is a healthy use of stems that provides some measure of balance. Terre et Sang is a work in progress, yet the first releases are impressive, especially for a new project that is just getting off the ground.
