When I think of what St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon should be, I often think of Spottswoode. The wines are simply classic. Proprietor Beth Weber Novak and winemaker Aron Weinkauf turned out a gorgeous 2021 that captures the essence of this site. I also tasted the 2022s from core samples that represent about 40% of what will be the final blends. Frost, drought and cluster collapse were some of the issues that defined this very challenging vintage. Even so, the 2022s are promising. I am looking forward to tasting them in finished form.
