The appellation-level Chardonnays are especially strong in this year's lineup from Sandhi and proprietors Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman. I was also deeply impressed with the 2012 Sparkling Rosé. In general, this is not a category I have been a huge fan of in the past, but there is little doubt Parr and Moorman's wine is fabulous. The single-vineyard Chardonnays and Pinots are mixed. Making wines from purchased fruit has its challenges, and those challenges are always accentuated in a difficult vintage in which timing, especially of harvesting, is so critical.
