Realm fans will find much to admire in these new 2013s. The wines sit on the edge of ripeness, with suggestions of sweetness that are at the limit of being over the top, something that is especially evident in some of the entry-level offerings. The Cabernets are all made from top-level vineyards that have the potential to make pedigreed wine almost indifferently to how the fruit is treated and therefore can handle the stylistic choices. Realm is run by a smart, passionate, hardworking team headed by founder Juan Mercado, winemaker Benoit Touquette and managing partner Scott Becker. When the team starts making the wines they really want to make - for themselves and not for someone else - that is when Realm has a serious shot of joining Napa Valley's elite.
