This is a strong set of wines from Pio Cesare. Over the last few years, Pio Boffa has taken his single-vineyard Mosconi and Ornato Barolos closer in style to the straight Barolo, which has always been a more classic wine. The opaque colors and strong scents of torrefaction appear, thankfully, to be things of the past, and what comes through in the Mosconi and Ornato is a greater expression of place than I have seen previously, specifically for the Ornato which has a much longer track record than the recently introduced Mosconi.
