Tasting these 2017 Barolos from Pio Cesare was bittersweet. The wines themselves are superb. A move towards a more classic style – one I would say is more in keeping with what consumers expect from a historic house – has paid off big time. The 2017s show a degree of finesse I have never seen before. Sadly, Pio Boffa passed away earlier this year, before seeing what will surely be a thrilling reception to these wines in the market.
