Barons de Rothschild (note the plural of Barons) brings together the three branches of the family – Baron Philippe Sereys de Rothschild of Mouton, Baron Eric de Rothschild of Lafite and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild and his wife, Ariane, of Clarke and the Edmond de Rothschild Group. The wines I tasted made it clear this is a serious and highly ambitious project. The Rothschilds source fruit from growers in the Côtes des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims for this range. The non-vintage wines don’t list disgorgement dates, base vintages or any other information that is helpful to the consumer, so I won’t publish reviews on those wines until that changes.

These are the first wines Rodolphe Péters made in his new cuverie. As noted previously, Péters decided to release his signature 2008 Les Chétillons with an extra year of bottle age, so it is a current release. On the subject of vintages, Péters likens 2012 to 2002 and 2013 to 2008. The two younger vintages figure prominently in the NV wines of the last two years, so the comparisons are intriguing, to say the least. Péters fans will note the addition of a new wine to the range, the L'Etonnant Monsieur Victor, as well as two releases of the Oenothèque series of the flagship Les Chétillons.

There's quite a bit going on at Pierre Péters, where Rodolphe Péters is giving his family's estate a serious shot in the arm. Last year I reported on two new wines that will debut with the 2013 vintage. This year, Péters showed me a sample of his Cuvée Anniversaire, a blend of multiple vintages across three generations of winemakers going back to 1921 that will be sold in 2019 to celebrate the estate's 100th birthday. In the meantime, Péters has also decided to release his flagship 2009 Cuvée Spéciale Les Chétillons ahead of the of the 2008, which makes a lot of sense given how the wines show today. In short, Pierre Péters fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
