Jan Eymael held off harvesting Riesling until the eve of a heavy September 14 rain, but then had his crew pick like crazy, finishing in just under two weeks. The sole parcel of Scheurebe that he thought worth targeting for late or selective picking sadly succumbed to yellow jackets and fruit flies, so 2017 is that rare vintage in the annals of this estate when there are no nobly sweet wines. There was a sweet Scheurebe Spätlese, but unfortunately not a bottle could be found by the time I arrived in mid-November. The April frost hit hard here, and the eventual crop was down by close to a third vis-à-vis 2016. (For more background on this estate, consult the introductions to my reviews of its 2014s and 2015s.)
