I was quite impressed with the wines I tasted from Peter Michael this year, not just the quality, but the overall direction. The most significant wines in this range are the 2017 Bordeaux reds, which are especially fine for a year that had so many challenges. But let's look at the whites first. Winemaker Nick Morlet describes 2018 as a year with a cool spring and an inconsistent bloom. Harvest was two weeks later than what has become the norm. The 2018 Chardonnays are exquisite, delicate wines. Sadly, the 2018 Pinots were not bottled at all because of smoke taint from the Mendocino fires that year. The Coeur à Coeur is also missing this year, as the team was not satisfied with the quality of the Sémillon and the wine was not bottled. Following the 2019 harvest, Nick Morlet has moved into a consultant role, where he will serve alongside his brother, Luc, in support of new day to day winemaker Robert Fiore, whom I first met when he was at Continuum.
