2019 Syrah Folly

Montes is a winery established in early 1988 by Aurelio Montes, Douglas Murray, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand, whose vision was to begin producing high-end wine of a kind unavailable in Chile at the time. Three decades on, it’s a private limited company controlled by the Montes, Garcés Silva, Barros, Murray, Guarachi and Vidaurre families and has established itself as a key producer, able to command some of the highest prices per case in the country. Headquartered in Apalta, they use grapes from different locations, from Limarí to as far north as Itata, as they wait for the vineyard they planted by the Chiloé canals to mature. With a portfolio of iconic wines such as Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon, Montes Folly Syrah and Purple Angel Carménère, they also have a line of more experimental offerings under the Outer Limits label. Their latest release is the Special Cuvée line, which represents a return to 1990s styles with a modern twist.
