Montes was one of the first wineries in Chile to make a wine valued at $100 with its Monthes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon. Others soon followed their lead. Since 2004 they’ve been established in Colchagua, with one foot in Apalta and the other in Marchigüe. Aurelio Montes leads the winemaking team, while Aurelio Montes Jr. is taking the family into new territories. Both Montes Alpha and Folly show why Chile has become a player on the global wine scene. Purple Angel, meanwhile, is just what an aged Carménère should be.
