Over the last few years, Paolo Meroi and his son Damiano have stepped up their game big time. The best Meroi wines are intensely mineral and focused, with tons of personality. There are occasional misses, such as the 2011 Chardonnay and 2012 Pinot Grigio and Friulano, but the finest wines are well worth seeking out. Production will be going up in the coming years as newly acquired vineyards come on line. If I had to name an under the radar Friulian grower with the potential to become widely known within the next few years Meroi would be at or near the top of that list.
