La Spinetta’s 2021 Barbarescos are worthy follow-ups to the 2020s. They benefit from a strong year and the recent move towards a style that shows more freshness and energy than the wines of the 1990s that first brought this young estate so much acclaim. Although today’s wines aren’t as opulent as those of the past, they still offer plenty of textural richness. The 2013 Barbaresco Riservas, tasted from magnum, are terrific examples of the style La Spinetta favored a decade ago. Although quite rich and extracted, with plenty of French oak sheen, the wines have aged well.
