La Ca' Nova is the hottest estate in Barbaresco right now. Proprietor Marco Rocca has really raised the bar here in recent years. The Ca' Nova Barbarescos are deep, powerful wines loaded with personality. Best of all, prices remain exceedingly fair for the quality that goes into the bottle. I remember stopping by in the summer of 2014 as the hail cannons were going off and a storm of Biblical proportions was just about to arrive. Rocca's vineyards - which are some of the best positioned in Barbaresco - came through beautifully. The 2014s spent 25-30 days on the skins, with the lots destined for the vineyard designates getting a few extra days on the skins. Aging was done in cask. Readers will not want to miss these magnificent, utterly thrilling wines.
