Jamie Kutch’s 2022 Pinot Noirs are worthy follow-ups to his 2021s. The wines are deep and beautifully layered, with plenty of site expression. More than anything else, though, the 2022s possess gorgeous balance. Kutch’s decision a few years ago to lower stem inclusion to 50% works so well for these wines. The 2022s spent eleven months in barrel, all neutral oak. Sadly, yields are down 60-70% because of a series of factors, including accumulated stress from drought in the vineyards, spring frost and poor weather during set. I did not have a chance to taste the 2022 Chardonnays, as the wines are still in barrel, but will report on them shortly.
